ABOUT GLEN

Glen Dell was born in 1962 and attended Queens College in Queenstown, South Africa. Glen started official flying training on a Cessna 150 in 1978 at the age of 16. He completed his licence the following year and in 1980 joined the South African Air Force. He completed his training on various aircraft, including the Harvard, and received SAAF wings in 1981. For the next 6 years he flew helicopters (the French built Alouette and Puma). Most of this flying was in the operational area flying low-level close air support and casualty evacuation.

In 1988 Glen joined South African Airways and flew Boeing 747 and 767's for a number of years and thereafter moved on to the Boeing 737 fleet as training captain. Glen recently did an Airbus aircraft series conversion and currently flies the Airbus A340.

LJUNGBYHED, SWEDEN, AUGUST 2004 - At the 6 th Advanced World Aerobatic Championships (AWAC), Glen came first overall and so became the first South African to win the Advanced World Aerobatic Championships. Apart from winning the gold medal for first overall place, he also won a further gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal in various programmes that were flown.

Internationally Glen has represented South Africa on 6 occasions :

2002 - 10th overall at AWAC in Slovenia
2004 - 1st overall at AWAC in Ljungbyhed , Sweden .

Not only has Glen's passion for flying given him the opportunity to fly at numerous Airshows over the years, but he has flown many different types of aircraft for instructional purposes and for test flights.

Glen has an Airline Transport Pilots Licence with a Grade 1 Instructors Rating on both Aeroplanes and Helicopters and as such is called upon to do candidates initial Instrument, Instructor and Commercial Pilot Ratings as well as conversions and renewals within the airline and industry.

In addition, Glen is an SACAA Designated Examiner on Aeroplanes and Helicopters, a Display Authorisation Examiner and part of the 5 man Display Authorisation Council of South Africa and has a zero foot aerobatic display waiver.

Currently Glen has flown 23 000+ hours on some 250 different types of aircraft. Of these, a little under 7000 are on helicopters and 7000 are instructional hours.

SLICK AIRCRAFT PROJECT- In 2003 Glen started an aerobatic aircraft manufacturing project. Seeing the gap that aircraft manufacturers such as Sukhoi, Cap, etc left in the market after ceasing aerobatic aircraft production, inspired Glen to design, create and develop the Slick 360 aircraft. The properties that he concentrated on most were strength, performance and the assurance that the aircraft would be precisely and easily controllable throughout the full spectrum of aerobatic manoeuvres. The Slick 360 has performed beyond expectation and it is predicted that the Slick 360 is destined to become one of the most preferred aircraft types for top world aerobatic pilots.
